Grand Opera Lohengrin Munich

Fischerstechen Ulm 2025 Fisherfolk Jousting

As announced before, the swarm visited a performance of the Opera Lohengrin in the Bayerisches Nationaltheater in Munich. We, however, pursued our own interests and will not focus too much on an opera review. But I can follow what the official reviews said. The swarm missed the traditional Lohengrin feeling too. Worst of all, we did not discover one Swan on the stage. It only appeared symbolic.

It was not as bad as the one that Mark Twain mentioned in his memories. But 5 hours just to realize that curiosity and jealousy of women destroy relationship is not much action for such a long play. Of course she asked the forbidden questions.

woher ich kam der Fahrt,
noch wie mein Nam’ und Art.

We started our evening with a, in Munich iconic, cocktail in the Restaurant König Ludwig Zwei: Kir Royal.

But our focus was to stage our own beacon against the brutal capitalists from foreign countries who disrespectfully destroy European cultural goods. We shall address the painful subject: The US Food Company Mondelez, who also owns Food company Mars. Which canceled to produce the iconic chocolate bar Lohengrin. From the former company Freia which produced it first for a Lohengrin performance in Norway. The Lohengrin bar after the event become extremely popular in Norway and was even enlisted in the Book of Norwegian cultural goods. But Mars took over Freia and Mondelez later Mars. And stopped producing it.

We had a hard time finding a chocolate bar in the food stands in the theater. But we found a Bounty in the Restaurant at the lowest level. Which is produced by Mars and which we enjoyed.

We asked at the bar of the restaurant, whats the name of the producer of Bounty and where is it coming from but they couldn’t tell us in the turmoil.

Another European icon, the formerly Swiss made chocolate bar Toblerone is owned by Mondelez now as well. But!!! It is no longer produced in Switzerland. But in Slovenia. This is why the iconic mountain “Matterhorn” mustn’t be used on the wraps.

But I was able to acquire a special customized big, oversized bar (for a lot of money) which still has the Matterhorn Mountain on the cover. Boy, were we happy when we got that. Another souvenir which we will have to store in a save place.

Recently we came across Peter Uhlig who worked for Richard Wagner. He wrote the piano score for Lohengrin. And was the son of Wettiner King of Saxony – Weimar Friedrich August II. And by that somehow, is related with Wittelsbacher King Ludwig II., friend and supporter of Richard Wagner.

The Wittelsbacher are still granted a permanent exclusive box in the theater which they owned until the end of the Kingdom 1918.

Opera Lohengrin has many well-known iconic tunes which are still played or performed all over the world every day. Ore appear in famous movies.

On the way home a look back:
