Returning to Singapore Sheila insisted to ride on the Singapore Flyer this time 2018, April, as we missed out on it the last time. We were lucky as the Flyer almost didn’t fly. Operation was suspended due to technical problems at the end of January and it took till April 2018 to reopen. When I booked our Singapore trip, it was not sure it was going to fly. We were also lucky as it was not busy and Sheila and I had a whole cabin all for ourselves. I was even asked by the helpfull staff if I dare to fly alone but they did not know Sheila was on board too. The Singapore Flyer used to be the biggest Ferris wheel world wide but lost that title 2014 to the High Roller in Las Vegas, USA. The Flyer was financed by german Investors and it’s savety was proofed and is checked by the German TÜV (Technical Inspection Agency). It opened Feb. 2008 and got stuck Dec. 2008 and some passengers had to be saved by abseiling. Passengers again had to be evacuated after lightning struck the wheel 2010 and the original owner, a fund came under receivership. A new Investor was found though.
