Abbey “Münsterschwarzach” in the town of Schwarzach is still a very important Benedictine monastery with connections all over the world. It was founded 780 by Fastrada, Charlemagne’s fourth wife. It was dissolved during the “Säkularisierung” (secularization) 1803 under Wittelsbacher Maximilian I. during the rule of Napoleon. It burned down after lightning struck 1810 and was taken down in the following until 1827. It was again sanctified and new founded 1914. The church was rebuilt 1935 to 1938 as the biggest church built under NAZI rule.
