Friedberg im Allgäu

Aichach, Wittelsbach, Dachau
Starnberg, Rat, Shipwreck?

Friedberg, respectively the castle “Fridberch” was founded by Wittelsbacher Duke Ludwig II. (der Strenge, the rigorous) with the agreement of last Staufer Konradin as a Bavarian fortress against the neighboring town of Augsburg, Swabia after 1264. Also to collect tariffs. The mighty Augsburger burned down the town 1396. The town was also destroyed twice during the Thirty Years’ War. Friedberg later became an important producer of watches.

Friedberg and nearby Aichach together set up an exhibition, the “Bayerische Landesausstellung” to document cities founded by the Wittelsbacher. I am not sure, if cities really liberated. Maybe some of the folks but not too many.

We went there early in the morning and enjoyed a nice dawn and sunrise at a cool morning.

We saw this nice, big wood-carved statue „Sepp und Schorsch“ created by Josef Lang in front of the exhibition hall and and added Sissi and Ludwig to take a little rest in Sepp’s arm.
