Hotel Goldener Adler with the Goldenes Dachl (Maximilian I. )

After we learned that Wittelsbacher King Ludwig II. made an extensive equestrian tour to the “Königskapelle Brennbichl” in the Inntal, we finally had to go there too. Also to visit the hotel in Innsbruck where to be King Otto I. of Greece stayed during his trip to Greece 17 years old, the poor boy „mei der arme Bua“ (quote uncle emperor Franz)

Our second stop and featured destination was the:

Hotel Goldener Adler in Innsbruck

Travelling is like a Box of Beer (Candy). You never know what you gonna get.

We tumbled into a historic wonderland. A house, which had so many royal and historically important guests that I can’t mention all of them.

First: King Otto of Greece was here on his way to work after he was elected to become the King of Greece when he was 16 years old. But his father King Ludwig I. was here too several times on his way to Roma/Italy to his Villa Malta and to visit little Ludovico in Rom, son of Marianna Marchesa Florenzi. Ludwig I. even became Godfather of the children of gastronome of Goldener Adler (golden eagle) at that time. The swarm was inspired by the former guests to go on more trips like to

Tunis

Mass Murderer King/Sultan Mulay Hassan, allied of Karl V. …Martin Luther..mid 16’th century,

-killed dozens of his family to ensure his rule and heritage

-later toppled and blinded (the other option was death) by his son, who again allied Tunis with the Turkish,

-and expelled to Europe stayed here

Glenn Ford stayed here too.

And we found many royal celebrities / guests whose former homes we already visited. Like Queen Louise Coidavid of Haiti. (Castle Sans Souci, Milot Haiti)

Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand

Karl Theodor, elector of Bavaria and Palatine, Duke of Bavaria,  –> Schwetzingen

Across the aisle lived Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. who 1833/1842 started to complete the construction of the Kölner Dom (Cathedral in Cologne),

King Otto of Greece (Prince of Bavaria at that time) stayed one floor higher. The trigger of our trip.

King Ludwig I. and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart one floor lower.

……….

Most imortant however is Icon Andreas Hofer (a gastronome himself), famous freedom fighter against the Frensh/Bavarian occupation in the times of Napoleon, held his famous speech here from the window of his room. After his first victory against the Frensh and Bavarians 1809.

“I werd enk nit verlassen, so wahr I Adrá Hofer hoass.

G’sagt hab I enks’s g’sehn habt’s mi, b’hüt enk Gott.

Kind like veni vedi vici. But of course, you must win the last battle.

The hotel is just wonderful, stylish but cozy and the royal grub is great. We had lunch here at St. Martin Day which is the start of the carnival season too.

The hotel got stone panels on the outside to commemorate all the famous guests who stayed here.

The Christmas markets in Innsbruck have already opened. The swarm could enjoy even more the spell of Christmas and Innsbruck.

The hotel also has a painting of Empress Elizabeth of Austria (Sisi, Sissi in the movies) at the reception.

But I think, she was never in the Hotel as she and her husband had their own little den in the Mountains above Innsbruck. Castle Ambras.

Preacher Jakob Hutter was burned in front of the Goldenes Dachl 1536 in the neighborhood.
