Sheila joined Butch and cheered him through to perform his “Metzgersprung” (Jump of the Butchers), a traditional way to celebrate the end of the apprenticeship as a Butcher, organized by the Butcher Union of Munich’s butchers. The tradition of the “Metzgersprung” started 450 years ago in a time, when the black plague was again raging in Munich. The “Schäffler”, who started the “Schäfflertanz” even about 50 years before joined too and together with the Butchers jumped in the “Fischbrunnen” (fish fountain) to cheer the people up and give them hope in those dark times.
The event takes place every other 3 years and it will again this year at the 8th of September. If you can you should not miss this event.
We celebrated the event with some vegetarian food during the warm sunny evening (no Wodka was required) at the neighboring coffee shop Richart.
